The recent amendment to the Uniform College Athlete Name, Image, or Likeness Act now allows institutions, conferences, and athletic associations to help college athletes choose and pay for agents who manage their name, image, or likeness deals. This change also removes the previous restriction that prohibited these institutions from compensating athletes directly for their name, image, or likeness. This matters because it provides college athletes greater support and financial opportunities, enabling them to benefit more fully from their personal brands. Additionally, the amendment includes a pause on new financial disclosure requirements for certain boards and commissions, giving those groups more time to adjust.
