The revised version of SB 458 updates the name of a holiday to “Indigenous Peoples' Day,” replacing the previously used term, and emphasizes the observance of this day in public schools to honor Native Americans and their contributions. Additionally, it changes Lobster Roll Day from the third Saturday to the third Sunday in September. A new holiday, Hartford Whalers Day, has also been introduced, celebrating the first game of the Hartford Whalers hockey team. These changes matter because they reflect a growing recognition and respect for Indigenous cultures, alongside promoting local pride around the Whalers' legacy.
