Plain-language change summary

The changes to House Bill 2609 include adding a provision that allows students in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade to enroll in an advanced mathematics course if available, as long as their parent does not object and they meet specific criteria. This means that students who previously missed out on advanced math courses due to availability can now have the opportunity to enroll. Additionally, previous references that covered different subsections for reporting student achievement were removed, simplifying the reporting requirements. These updates aim to improve access to advanced mathematics for students, particularly those who may have faced barriers, which is important for promoting equity in education.
