The recent amendment to SB 287 replaces a requirement that members of the appointed task force include representatives from both the majority and minority parties in the House and Senate. This change simplifies the composition of the task force by allowing the speaker and president of the respective chambers to appoint any three members without party representation stipulations. This matters because it may lead to a more straightforward and potentially faster appointment process, which could expedite the work on supporting Alaska Native languages.
