Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill SB 1672 clarify that the authorization of antipsychotic drugs will only be granted for medications that have been prescribed in nonemergency or outpatient settings within the past five years. This addition ensures that only evidence-based, peer-reviewed drugs are covered, promoting safety and efficacy in patient treatment. Additionally, the bill confirms that it does not restrict the use of generic drugs and allows for necessary safety reviews, which aims to enhance patient care while maintaining cost-effectiveness in the healthcare system. Overall, these changes focus on ensuring that patients receive appropriate and effective antipsychotic medications.
