The amendments to Bill SB 1144 clarify the definitions and penalties related to false reporting of serious offenses. The revised bill specifies that knowingly making a false report intending to cause an emergency response will be classified as a class 6 felony, while other types of false reporting remain a class 1 misdemeanor, with repeat offenses elevating to felony status. Additionally, offenders may now be required to cover the costs incurred due to emergency responses linked to their false reports. These changes highlight the seriousness of the crime and aim to deter individuals from making false reports that disrupt public safety.
