The recent amendments to SB 1650 enhance the powers of the auditor general in Arizona, allowing them greater access to state agency records and other relevant documents. Specifically, the changes clarify that the auditor general and their representatives can examine all kinds of records, including financial documents and criminal history records, whenever needed. Additionally, the revisions remove certain requirements for cooperation from transportation agencies and the financial obligations for conducting studies, streamlining the audit process. These changes are important because they aim to improve government transparency and accountability by ensuring auditors have the necessary resources to perform comprehensive evaluations.
