The proposed amendments to Bill SCR 1007 clarify that the state, towns, or any political subdivisions cannot declare themselves as sanctuary jurisdictions. This means they cannot create rules that would prevent law enforcement from sharing or verifying an individual's immigration status, unless it interferes with an investigation. These changes aim to ensure that local governments collaborate with federal immigration law enforcement, which is intended to maintain consistency in how immigration laws are applied statewide. This matters because it could affect how local communities handle immigration-related issues and their cooperation with federal authorities.

The United States is a nation of immigrants and Arizona has a rich history of being a place that all who come here through legal means can call home.
