Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to HJR 17 add a specific call for Congress to pass the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act. This change emphasizes the Alaska Legislature's support for a national inquiry into the historical impact of Indian boarding schools, which aimed to assimilate Indigenous children by forcefully separating them from their families and cultures. This matters because it recognizes the trauma caused by these policies and highlights the need for acknowledgment and healing within affected communities.
