The recent amendment to House Bill 92 raises the maximum benefit for vessel owners from $5,000 to $10,000 when they file a claim against their protection and indemnity insurance policy after a fisherman files a claim. This change is significant because it increases the support available to vessel owners, allowing them to recover a larger portion of their losses following incidents that impact their operations. By enhancing this financial safety net, the legislative update aims to help maintain the stability of local fishing businesses during challenging times.
