Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 72 now focuses specifically on a standardized civics examination based on the U.S. naturalization test instead of requiring a broader civics education curriculum and assessment. This means that students must score at least 60% on a specific set of civics questions to receive their high school diploma, which emphasizes knowledge of U.S. government and history. This change matters because it streamlines the requirements for civics education, potentially making it easier for schools to ensure students are effectively prepared for citizenship while still accommodating students with disabilities.
