The latest version of HB 16 updates the focus from shared ownership of milk-producing animals to broader regulations surrounding the sale of milk and raw milk products in Alaska. It now includes specific guidelines for selling raw milk, emphasizing that products must clearly state that they are unpasteurized and may pose health risks. Additionally, the bill introduces exemptions for food products sold directly from producers to consumers without the typical licensing and inspection requirements, but these must still carry a clear warning about lack of state regulation. These changes are important as they aim to balance consumer safety while allowing more flexibility for small-scale producers.
