The changes to SB 55 include extending the term for which the chief justice can appoint acting judges to the court of appeals, from two years to three years. Additionally, the effective date of the bill was pushed back from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2022. This matters because it allows for a longer time frame for the chief justice to fill temporary vacancies, which could help ensure the court remains fully staffed and operational.
