Plain-language change summary

The changes to SB 68 establish an advanced practice permit for dental hygienists, removing the requirement for them to have collaborative agreements with dentists to perform certain services. This means that dental hygienists with sufficient experience can work more independently, allowing them to provide essential dental care services even in settings where a dentist may not be present, such as nursing homes or schools. Additionally, the bill aims to prevent discrimination in health insurance coverage for hygienists with this permit, increasing access to dental hygiene services for underserved populations. These adjustments are significant because they enhance the role of dental hygienists in patient care, potentially improving overall access to dental health services.
