The updated version of Bill SB 5 expands the prohibition on campaign contributions during legislative sessions to include not only groups controlled by legislators but also those that operate with their authorization or consent. This change aims to close loopholes that could allow influence over elections while lawmakers are in session. Additionally, the bill continues to restrict certain lobbyists from making contributions to legislative candidates, which reinforces transparency and fairness in political funding. These amendments are significant because they help prevent potential conflicts of interest and ensure that the legislative process remains unaffected by outside financial pressures.
