The revised bill SB 50 has increased the fee for the sale or installation of studded tires from $5 to $50 per tire. It also lowered the weight limit for the metal studs or spikes in the tires from 1.1 grams to 0.5 grams, meaning more tires will now fall under this fee requirement. These changes aim to generate more revenue for road repair and maintenance in Alaska, which is crucial for ensuring safe driving conditions on state highways.
