The changes made to Bill SB 92 include an extension that allows local employers in the Employees' Retirement System more time to opt into a previous law, Act 2022-229, which offers a one-time lump-sum payment to eligible retirees and beneficiaries. Specifically, they now have until October 31, 2023, to make this decision. This extension is significant because it provides local units additional flexibility and time to secure these benefits for their employees, ensuring that more individuals can take advantage of the financial support provided by the act.
