The bill, now known as the Lares-Herring Act, has been updated to explicitly state that distinctive "Brain Cancer Research" license plates will be issued to Alabama residents who meet certain requirements, including a $50 annual fee. This change is significant because it introduces a specific purpose for the plates, directing funds toward brain cancer research, which can help raise awareness and potentially support advancements in treatment and care. Additionally, these plates are valid for five years and can be replaced with new designs after that period, offering vehicle owners flexibility in how they show support for this cause.
