Plain-language change summary

The recent changes to HB 64 include a new provision that explicitly prohibits individuals who are unlawfully in the U.S. or hold a nonimmigrant visa from possessing firearms. This addition aims to enhance public safety by ensuring that certain non-citizens do not have access to firearms. Additionally, the bill includes updated technical revisions for clarity, but the main focus is on defining who cannot possess a firearm under Alabama law. This matters because it sets clear legal boundaries for firearm possession based on immigration status, which can impact local law enforcement and community safety policies.
