The recent amendments to Bill SB 128 eliminate the State Board of Health and transfer its responsibilities to the State Committee of Public Health. The changes also establish minimum qualifications for the State Health Officer and require that certain emergency measures taken by this officer receive approval from the Governor before they become effective. This matters because it aims to streamline public health governance and ensure greater oversight and accountability in the management of health-related emergencies.
