Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 7 now allows local authorities, such as sheriffs and police chiefs, to contract with nonpublic K-12 schools, including private and religious schools, to provide school resource officers. Importantly, it emphasizes that before making such contracts, these authorities must ensure that all public K-12 schools in their jurisdiction already have a resource officer. This change is significant as it expands the safety resources available to nonpublic schools while maintaining a requirement for public school safety first.
