The updated version of Bill HB 55 introduces the "Alabama Squat Truck Law," which makes it illegal to operate a passenger vehicle if the front fender is raised four or more inches above the rear fender. This change clarifies the focus of the law specifically on altering vehicle height, rather than the previous language that suggested a broader context. Importantly, it also addresses financial implications for local governments, allowing the law to take effect without the need for a 2/3 legislative vote, which could simplify its implementation. This matters because it aims to prevent safety issues associated with modified vehicles while ensuring that local governments are not burdened financially by the new regulations.
