The revised bill now includes specific criteria for claiming a senior property tax exemption in Lauderdale County for residents aged 65 and older. It states that eligible individuals must own and occupy the property as their main residence for at least five years prior to applying for the exemption. This change matters because it clearly outlines the eligibility requirements, potentially helping older residents save on property taxes while ensuring the exemption is fairly applied to those who have a long-term connection to their homes.
