The amendment to SB 252 changes the rules around "independence accounts," which allow individuals with disabilities to save money while still receiving Medical Assistance benefits. Previously, the bill allowed individuals to deposit up to $15,000 of their earnings into these accounts. The amendment raises this limit significantly, allowing up to $40,000 from inherited assets to be excluded from the financial eligibility assessment for assistance. This matters because it provides individuals with disabilities greater financial flexibility and support, helping them to maintain their benefits while saving for the future.
