Plain-language change summary

The amended version of Assembly Bill 998 changes the school year for the council on early literacy curricula to start recommending early literacy curricula and instructional materials from the 2026-27 school year instead of the 2025-26 school year. This shift gives more time for the department to prepare and review the recommendations before they are implemented in schools. Additionally, there are modifications to the timeline for how quickly the department must act on these recommendations, ensuring there is adequate time for review. These changes are important because they aim to improve the quality of early literacy education for kindergarten to third-grade students in Wisconsin.
