The recent amendment to Bill 25-0709 makes a crucial change by declaring an emergency to officially designate a portion of a public alley as "Annie’s Way." This designation aims to honor Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse, a long-time supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community. The amendment is necessary because the permanent designation bill will take time to enact, and the council wants to ensure the street sign is installed before the Capital Pride celebrations in June 2024. This change underscores the importance of timely recognition and support for community contributions.

Because Bill 25-534 will not go into effect until after the required congressional review period, this emergency legislation is necessary to ensure that the street sign will be installed before the District’s annual Capital Pride celebrations in June 2024.
The Council of the District of Columbia determines that the circumstances enumerated in section 2 constitute emergency circumstances making it necessary that the Annie’s Way Designation Emergency Act of 2024 be adopted after a single reading.
