The amendment to the bill clarifies the requirements for the Inspector General to hire an independent counsel to investigate sexual harassment claims and mandates that a report of findings be completed within 120 days of contracting the counsel. This change is important as it ensures that timely and thorough investigations will take place, helping to hold accountable those involved in misconduct and improving the overall response to sexual harassment cases. The amendment is necessary to fill a potential gap in the law as previous provisions are set to expire shortly.
