The latest version of HB 270 adds clarity to the definitions in the Motor Vehicle Code, specifically relating to definitions for autonomous vehicles and their operation. It also introduces requirements for permits for these vehicles and allows for platooning, which is when a group of vehicles travel closely together for safety and efficiency. These changes matter because they establish a legal framework for the use of advanced vehicle technologies in New Mexico, ensuring safety standards while encouraging innovation in transportation.
