Plain-language change summary

The amendment changes the focus of the bill from establishing a federal financial assistance program for advanced nuclear reactors and their supply chain infrastructure to requiring the Secretary of Energy to establish a Nuclear Fuel Security Program and expand the American Assured Fuel Supply Program. It emphasizes increasing domestic production of low-enriched uranium and developing enrichment capabilities for high-assay, low-enriched uranium. This matters because it reflects a shift towards enhancing U.S. nuclear fuel security and supporting advanced nuclear reactor projects through domestic capabilities rather than just financial assistance.
