The recent changes to Bill SB 616 clarify the roles and responsibilities of environmental health professionals and the services they provide. The term "environmental health practice" has been reinforced to include a wide range of public health services, like food safety and wastewater management, aimed at preventing health hazards. Additionally, the definition of "environmental health specialist" has been fine-tuned, emphasizing the educational and training requirements necessary for these professionals. These updates are important because they help ensure environmental health standards are clearly defined and consistently enforced, ultimately protecting public health more effectively.
