April 19, 2023 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO REPLACE THE CRIME OF COMMON LAW OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE WITH A CODIFIED VERSION OF THAT SAME CRIME.
Judiciary 2, if favorable, Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House April 19, 2023 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO REPLACE THE CRIME OF FELONY COMMON LAW OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE WITH A CODIFIED VERSION OF THAT SAME CRIME.
(a) Offense.
If any person shall, with deceit and an intent to defraud, unlawfully obstruct justice, the person is guilty of a Class I felony.
– It is unlawful for any person to do any act which prevents, obstructs, impedes, or hinders public or legal justice.
This crime shall replace the crime of common law felony obstruction of justice in this State." SECTION 2.
(b) Any person who violates subsection (a) of this section in relation to a misdemeanor offenseis guiltyofaClass 1 misdemeanor.Anypersonwhoviolatessubsection (a)ofthis section in relation to a felony offense is guilty of a Class I felony.
(c) This crime shall replace the crime of common law obstruction of justice in this State." SECTION 2.
