The latest version of Bill HB 63 adds clarity on the definition of a "State agency" and gives a clear directive for State agencies to verify the immigration status of applicants before providing any public benefits. This change is significant because it establishes a consistent process for assessing eligibility based on immigration status, potentially affecting individuals seeking grants, licenses, or public assistance in North Carolina. By creating such verification requirements, the bill aims to ensure that only qualified individuals receive these benefits, which proponents argue can help manage state resources more effectively.
