Rules and Operations of the Senate March 31, 2021 A SENATE RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE APPOINTMENT, NOMINATION, AND CONFIRMATION OF MACHELLE SANDERS AS SECRETARY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE.
Be it resolved by the Senate:
Whereas, pursuant to G.S.
143B-9(a), the Governor shall notify the President of the Senate of the name of each person to be nominated as head of a principal State department;
and Whereas, each nomination is subject to senatorial advice and consent in conformance with Section 5(8) of Article III of the North Carolina Constitution;
and Whereas, a vacancy occurred when the Secretary of the Department of Commerce resigned;
and Whereas, under G.S.
143B-9(a), the Governor is authorized to make an appointment to such a vacancy pending further action by the Senate;
and Whereas, the Governor has appointed Machelle Sanders to serve as Secretary of the Department of Commerce pending further action by the Senate;
Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the Senate:
Having given due consideration to the matter, the Senate confirms Machelle Sanders as Secretary of the Department of Commerce.
That the Senate shall hereby consider whether to confirm Machelle Sanders as Secretary of the Department of Commerce.
