In the updated version of House Bill 500, the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Conservation, and Natural Resources has taken over the proposal, authorizing the Department of Conservation and Recreation to accept a specific 1,240-acre property in Loudoun County for a new state park. The focus has shifted from merely acquiring the property to "accepting or acquiring" it, and there's a greater emphasis on supporting agricultural uses alongside recreation and historical interpretation. These changes highlight the state's commitment to preserving natural spaces while also fostering educational opportunities related to agriculture, which is important for community engagement and environmental stewardship.
