Plain-language change summary

In the updated version of Bill SB 569, changes were made to clarify that prescribers can only prescribe a specific quantity of transdermal fentanyl patches, limiting it to a maximum of five patches for a seven-day supply. Additionally, the requirement for pharmacists to verify that prescribers have met documentation criteria was removed, simplifying their role in the prescription process. These changes aim to streamline the prescribing and dispensing of fentanyl while still ensuring oversight and accountability in managing opioid use, particularly in light of the ongoing crisis of fentanyl-related overdoses.
