The recent amendments to HR 268 added a mandate for the Joint State Government Commission to study how current federal and state laws affect the capacity of the health care system to treat both behavioral and physical health issues. This change is significant because understanding the legal barriers can help improve treatment options for patients, particularly those in emergency departments, ultimately aiming to reduce unnecessary hospital stays and enhance overall patient care. The revisions underscore the importance of addressing both behavioral and physical health together for better health outcomes.
