The updated version of House Bill 576 specifies that attorneys cannot accept fees from county compensation awards unless they obtain a reasonable opinion from the North Carolina State Bar. This change emphasizes the need for oversight in legal fee arrangements, likely aiming to protect clients and ensure fair practices in counties with larger populations. The bill still applies only to counties with populations over 500,000, meaning it targets areas with more complex legal needs.
