Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill SB 20 make a couple of key changes regarding penalties for assaults on various officers and personnel. First, the classification of felonies for assaults with a firearm against government officers, company police officers, and campus police officers has increased from a Class F to a Class E felony, which means harsher penalties for such crimes. Additionally, the penalties for assaults on law enforcement, probation, and parole officers have been updated from Class E to Class D felonies when a firearm is involved. These changes are significant because they aim to provide stronger protection for public servants and act as a deterrent against violence towards them.
