The updated version of House Bill 1101 allows laboratory schools to enroll up to 20% of students who do not meet specific eligibility criteria, giving these schools more flexibility in admitting local children. It also clarifies that a laboratory school can deny admission to any student currently suspended or expelled from a public school. Additionally, it emphasizes the need for laboratory schools to actively recruit a student population that mirrors the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic make-up of the local community, promoting diversity and inclusion. These changes are important as they aim to improve educational access and representation in laboratory schools.
