The updated version of Bill HB 891 clarifies the definition of "cost of operation" for school food nutrition services, specifying the types of expenses that can be covered. It also emphasizes that school nutrition personnel must be paid only for their direct involvement in these services. These changes ensure that any extra earnings from the food programs are directed towards reducing costs and improving food quality, or providing lunches for students in need, reinforcing the bill's focus on nonprofit management of school nutrition services. This matters because it aims to improve food access and quality for students, especially those from low-income families.
