Plain-language change summary

The revised bill HB 521 adds a clear definition of "good cause" related to school closures, specifying circumstances like severe weather and energy shortages that allow schools to adjust their calendars. It ensures that schools that have had significant closures over the past decade are not held to strict opening and closing dates, which provides flexibility to local school boards. This change is important as it helps schools better manage unexpected disruptions and focus on education without the pressure of rigid scheduling.
