The changes in HB 445 clarify how the committee overseeing fire protection funding is structured and emphasize the role of the Fire Marshal. The bill specifies that the committee can only recommend a fee to the county commissioners, who will determine the actual fee but ensures that it does not exceed the cost of providing fire services. This matters because it reinforces a systematic approach to funding fire protection, ensuring that contributions are fair and based on the actual costs involved, which can help maintain essential emergency services.
