The recent amendment to SB 314 updates the Illinois Insurance Code to improve coverage for mammograms. It now requires insurance providers to cover not only baseline mammograms for women aged 35 to 39 and annual screenings for those aged 40 and over, but also additional screenings for younger women with risk factors or dense breast tissue, when deemed necessary by their healthcare provider. This change is significant as it enhances access to critical breast cancer screenings, potentially leading to earlier detection and better health outcomes for women in Illinois.
