The amendments to Bill SB 2483 specify that at least 75% of the funds collected from hotel taxes in municipalities within DuPage County must be spent on promoting tourism and attracting overnight visitors. The remaining funds can be used for economic development or capital infrastructure projects. This change is significant because it emphasizes the importance of tourism for local economies and ensures that a substantial portion of the revenue is reinvested into the community to encourage visitor spending. Additionally, the provision's repeal date has been removed, meaning it will remain in effect indefinitely unless future changes are made.
