Plain-language change summary

The revised version of Bill SB 3249 has added provisions requiring that textbooks purchased through a state grant program must explicitly include the roles and contributions of all individuals protected under the Illinois Human Rights Act, ensuring a focus on diversity and non-discrimination. Additionally, it mandates annual publication of a list of approved textbooks by the State Board of Education, which will help schools select appropriate learning materials. This change is significant because it promotes a more inclusive educational environment that recognizes the contributions of historically marginalized groups.
