What changed in the latest version
15 added · 37 removedPlain-language change summary
The latest version of SB 2604 reduces the penalty for taxpayers who fail to pay their taxes after the Illinois Department of Revenue starts an audit, lowering it from 20% to 15%. Additionally, the bill allows this penalty to be waived if the taxpayer has paid at least 95% of their total tax liability before the audit begins. These changes are significant because they aim to ease the financial burden on taxpayers and encourage compliance with tax obligations, potentially reducing disputes and enhancing overall tax collection efficiency.
