Plain-language change summary

The bill HB 5397 has been amended to specify that beginning July 1, 2024, members of the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board cannot serve more than nine years in total unless a two-thirds majority of the executive committee approves an extension. This change aims to ensure fresh perspectives on the board and limit the tenure of its members, which can help promote accountability and prevent stagnation in leadership. Additionally, the amendments clarify that board members cannot receive a salary but can be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred while performing board duties.
