Plain-language change summary

In the latest version of Bill SB 2737, the language around restrictions on competition for mental health professionals has changed from stating that such restrictions would impose an "undue burden" on veterans and first responders to suggesting they are "likely to result in an increase in cost or difficulty." Additionally, the definition of a "licensed mental health professional" has been clarified to specify that they must be licensed under various established acts rather than just registered by regulatory boards. These changes are significant because they address potential barriers to accessing mental health services for veterans and first responders, highlighting the importance of ensuring that these individuals can get the support they need without added challenges. Furthermore, the bill now sets a specific effective date of January 1, 2025, rather than taking effect immediately upon becoming law.
