The recent amendment to Bill HB 5083 adds provisions to include mental health professionals under the Public Employee Disability Act and related compensation acts. This means that mental health responders who assist during emergency situations will be recognized and protected in the same way as law enforcement personnel. This change is significant because it acknowledges the critical role mental health professionals play in public safety and ensures they receive the same benefits as other first responders.
