Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 10 has made changes to the educator licensure system in Illinois by clarifying the types of licenses available for educators. It specifies that individuals must have one of four licenses, such as a professional educator license or a substitute teaching license, and provides guidance on the duration of these licenses. Notably, the new version also removes specific minimum salary requirements for teachers that were previously outlined, shifting the focus away from fixed salary benchmarks to a system that ties future salary increases to the Consumer Price Index. This change matters because it gives school boards more flexibility in determining teacher salaries while still considering inflation, which could impact teacher retention and recruitment.
